Jay was born in South Korea, spent her childhood in Australia, and moved to London in 2006 to study acting at RADA. After graduating in 2009 she worked for three years in London as an actress across film and theatre. In 2011 she took part in the Royal Court Theatre’s writers’ programme and wrote her first short film, RED REFLECTIONS. After the film’s completion in 2013 she directed the play MELODRAMA, which was nominated for best director and won 2nd prize at the 34th Korean Workers’ Art Festival. In 2014 Jay directed the play LOVE IS BURNING and her second short film CONTACT POINT, both starring Moon Choi and Sukku Son. In 2015 she moved to Berlin, where she worked as an assistant director and directed the portrait film THE TRAVELLERS. Her first feature project GLOWED UP (formerly titled OUTGROWN) was developed by Film London's Microwave Programme and was a finalist for development funding. She continues to develop her first feature while directing her fourth short film. Jay is based between London and Oslo.
